Co-led by Simon Renaud and Romain Camiolo, AMOUR AMOUR is a Montréal-based interdisciplinary company focused on the production and performance of new dance and music.

My first formal web contract, this project built on what I’d learned from creating and mounting my first website while pursuing the specific objectives of AMOUR AMOUR. I came away with invaluable knowledge about building in Figma and Webflow, my own workflow, and other general knowledge related to working with clients in a design-specific context.

The site includes a fully integrated CMS as well as a bilingual language feature that works around Webflow’s native localization service. In order to achieve this, I worked with Claude to build a bilingual feature - using JS - in order to avoid extra recurring monthly fees for AMOUR AMOUR.

The project also demanded designing with respect to and around an existing though incomplete design system. The limited budgets of cultural not-for-profits (I understand it well, I’ve worked in dance since 2011) meant finding workarounds for a lack of out-of-budget typography that would’ve otherwise meant not being able to meet basic UX standards for readability, visual hierarchy, etc.

The design Simon, Romain, and I settled on attempted to meet and develop the aesthetic regime of the existing system - inviting softened edges into the pre-existing, classic, brutalist aesthetic while framing it in a sort of light nostalgia that - for me - recalls a sort of web-based feeling of “home” that AMOUR AMOUR espouses in their own artistic mandate. There is a suggested - though perhaps fashionably deformed - sense of the home-life of my own youth - of afternoons spent exploring the early internet of the 90’s in the family office...
